Australian Geckos

Crowned Gecko (Diplodactylus stenodactylus)

The Crowned Gecko is small and brown with a pale cream stripe down the centre of its back and mottled spots on its side. This stripe splits at the nape of the neck forming two eye stripes. Its belly is whitish and so transparent that often its internal organs are visible when it is held up to the light. During the day, it shelters in burrows or under ground-cover such as spinifex or saltbush, where its smooth, mottled skin makes it difficult to see.
