Australian Geckos

Central Knob-tailed Gecko (Nephrurus levis)

Also called the Smooth Knob-tailed Gecko, this gecko has a large head, large bulging eyes, short body and a fat, carrot-shaped tail ending in a small knob. It feeds mainly on spiders, scorpions and crickets, which it pounds against a hard object and crushes in its strong jaws. The Central Knob-tailed Gecko is found in a wide variety of sandy habitats throughout arid Australia.
