One of the larger insect-eating bats, the White-striped Mastiff Bat has a distinctive broad white stripe beneath its wings. It produces a loud, high-pitched, call which can often be heard at night. This bat searches high above the tree canopy for flying insects using its well developed system of ultrasonic echo location. The White-striped Mastiff Bat is widely distributed in a variety of habitats and is common throughout this range. During the day, it rests in small groups, often within a tree hollow.
