Richard's Pipits when courting engage in song display flights ending in an abrupt dive to the ground, where their drab brown plumage blends with the gibber of stony terrain. They are often observed running or pusuing insects through open saltbush-covered gibber areas. On stopping, they cgaractersitically bob their tails up and down.
